Share the Table Evening: Saturday, August 9 at 6pm

Join us in getting to know others from the Ascension community! As our church community continues to grow, we’re looking for ways to be connected, to know and be known. “Share the Table” is one way of doing this. Will you join the Ascension community on Saturday, August 9th? The idea is that some will host a dinner at their home while others will sign up to go to a dinner as a guest. A few days before August 9th hosts will find out who is coming to their home to share their table, and guests will find out where they are going for dinner. Registration and more info here!

A whole lot of nothing ….

What’s that all about? We’re cutting way back on programs this summer. While there are a few events upcoming in June, and ongoing activities for our international friends, we’re encouraging everyone to rest and take a break. Books. Friends. Nature. Prayer. Our rector, Peter Coelho, spells it out in the Summer edition of the Ascent. He’s got a few summer reading suggestions also. Check them out!

Heroes of the Hebrew Bible

There are a few different Bible Studies for internationals this summer, including Heroes of the Hebrew Bible. If you are an international or if you are an English-speaking volunteer, you are welcome! Learn about the Holy Spirit alongside internationals

There are a few different options for Bible Studies for internationals this summer – including a study on the Holy Spirit on Thursday evenings in July and August. If you are an international or if you are an English-speaking volunteer, you are welcome! Interested? Please email LuAnn or check out dates here.

International Ministry needs a few volunteers this fall

Volunteers needed include: Teacher for Level 1; Helper for Level 1; Helper(s) for Level 0; Substitute Teacher; Help with field trips (drive, chat with those who come); Testing help (August, early September). If you can assist in any of these ways, please email LuAnn. Fall classes begin September 8.

International Ministry Field Trip

Arguably the ministry that has the most fun is Ascension’s International Ministry. A group hopes to head to Ohiopyle on July 19th. Drivers and English speakers are always in demand. Interested? Email LuAnn!

Summer CAYG continues

Join us for a short but sweet season of youth group! CAYG is back like it was before with food, fellowship, and formation. This summer we will emphasize and teach through some amazing and biblical characteristics of CAYG to press into as we seek to follow Jesus as a community with everything we have. International Ministry Event: July 28

Ascension’s International Ministry will host an event on July 28 at 7pm, “Living with Racism: Conversation with Beverly Harris Schenz.” English speakers are welcome to join our international friends. Interested? Please email LuAnn for details or watch upcoming announcements.

Trainings to join Ascension Refugee Ministry

Ascension volunteers are currently walking with 12 families, 8 of whom arrived in January when government supports were cut back. We hope to expand our capacity to walk with 2 additional families from Honduras and South Sudan. To do this, we will need new volunteers. Would you consider joining this team? Volunteers serve as a team to assist with transportation to appointments, sorting mail, family outings, English conversation practice, etc. Info on mandatory upcoming trainings is here. Questions? We’ll chat about our Anglican heritage, who we are as a local congregation in Pittsburgh, and how you might connect more deeply to our community. Newcomer Dinner: August 28 at 6pm

A casual evening around the Coelhos’ dining table — what better way to get to know your Rector, form new relationships and talk about the vision of Church of the Ascension than over a shared meal? Please bring a side dish or dessert to share if you are able, but you are welcome to simply bring yourself, your questions and your appetite. Families, you are welcome to bring your kids along. Do indicate any dietary restrictions or allergies in your RSVP. 

Ascension’s Annual Parish Retreat

Save the Date! The Annual Parish Retreat will be held October 3 – 5 at Laurelville Retreat Center. David Taylor will be our speaker on the subject of the Psalms. Registration will begin in August.
